I don't have the Kobo, but I'm overall happy with the Colorsoft. The response when turning pages is very fast. The text is a dark black, and I can get the brightness easily to a place where the contrast of the black on white (or warm white!) is really good. The range of warmth is very good: anywhere from blue to deep amber.

I can't see the "screen door" when at normal reading distance with my eyeglasses on. When I take them off and hold the Kindle closer to my eyes, yes, I can see it, but personally it doesn't bother me. I consider it different than the B&W Kindles, not "worse."

It is a good reader, and I do like the larger size. But I readily admit I prefer all the features of my 6" Oasis (aluminum body, lighter, easier to hold in one hand, physical buttons).
