The software version is 15.13.xx and has a Home screen with one large book icon and a Reading List on the right. There is no pop-up to register the device when you click on the home screen. I bought a separate Kindle that I registered for KU, Translation and Wikipedia. This was before I knew about Kobo and PocketBook, unfortunately.

Thanks for the feedback man but I've honestly decided against kindle at this point. Way too invasive and locking me out of the vocabulary builder which is the only kindle specific feature I actually want. Just too many headaches and way too invasive, plus I wouldn't put it past them to secretly connect to unregistered devices and take your data anyway. I wouldn't put anything past them, they are predators of the highest order
