Last time I looked, KOReader handled way more than just ePub format ebooks. A quick look at the Github page shows PDF, DjVu, CBT, CBZ, EPUB, FB2, Mobi, DOC, RTF, HTML, CHM, TXT plus .zip versions of some such as TXT files.

OTOH, if you are sending ePub files, you might need to embed metadata using either Polish or ModifyEpub to embed the covers.
