I hope that you can glean something useful from my comments. People are very idiosyncratic in how they organize and use books.
My directory structure: If it's a book, I put it in a directory called "Books" (/sdcard/Books). I find this easy.
I don't like covers at all. Most of them are pretty irrelevant. Even the nice ones don't look very nice shrunk down and in B/W. Moreover the use of them eats a lot of space.
Your line listing is not very efficient either. The icon on the left for book is kind of redundant, the star on the right is bigger than it needs to be. I see you listing 11 books on a 7" device. I fit 17 books on a 6" device.
For me, 90% of the time I am interested in the last dozen books that I downloaded. The other 10% I'm looking for a book that I downloaded a while ago. Usually a search of very few letters gets me what I want.
I know especially for others that they don't want to deal with any complexities. Maybe a different library utility or even a different reader might be the solution?
Below is my own library app. The gray entries are expired public library (OverDrive) books.
