Likely WiFi would not have worked.

There is a problem now registering older Kindles (I registered before that), that now they won't register on WiFi and you need either an SMS or email code added to either user or password (I forget which). It's best to already have an Amazon account, though using a gift card code for USA Marketplace used to work to create an account on the K3.

Download from here:

You'll find it hard to register and Customer Service may initially tell you that you can't.

I've no idea if WiFi really works now, though it's used to set time & date if the battery goes flat.
I've had to replace the LiPoly cell, which is easy on the KK3. Easier than DXG.
Ironically now a nicer UI than the PW3.

The store no longer works. But that was always madness compared to Win/Mac/Linux browser. Or even Android (some Android even 4.1 will let you save the Download Kindle file and copy to Kindle over USB).
This is how I registered a Kindle Touch. Should work for the K3/KK.

Register your Kindle from the Kindle. When you get the code texted to your phone, go to register your Kindle again but instead of putting in your password, put in the code. That's what worked for me to get a Kindle Touch registered.
