Just noticed that you were talking about Adobe Digital Editions, is that what you meant? It's the Sony eBook Library software that you need for the Sony and Waterstones stores and which has the region restrictions.
As far as I know there isn't a seperate UK or US specific edition of the ADE software, which is only needed for DRM'd EPUB and PDF files.
