The Inkpad 4 has a flush screen with a glass layer on top and that seems to affect contrast (even more than the fact Pocketbook don't seem to crank up the contrast on their screens as much as other manufacturers).
KOReader has additional settings, not found on the stock Pocketbook reader app, that allow the contrast to be raised and the font weight to be finely tuned, but I've not seen any pictures of what that looks like on the Inkpad 4.
