It's a business, not a moral cause. There are going to be shortages near- and intermediate-term as they retool and start over again. There have to be judgments made about where to supply them first and obviously Amazon thinks getting them out in the US first is their best strategy. They wouldn't be giving up Christmas sales in the UK altogether if it couldn't be helped.
Without knowing anything at all about the numbers, I get that it's probably better to meet immediate demand fully in particular markets rather than have slow shipments everywhere. I.e., they want the US Christmas sales.
