Will the method pmarcus mentioned work on this? I'm not sure what update_kualbooklet is or does either.
You should be able to update up to version 5.16.21 and preserve the jailbreak. A few things to know:
  1. Firmwares up to 5.16.2.1.1 can be upgraded to normally; the method mentioned above should work, and in general updating to those versions is well documented on the forum. The update_kualbooklet is part of the KUAL package (you will need the coplate version). Check NiLuJe’s hacks thread for details.
  2. Firmwares from 5.16.3 and upwards are not fully supported due to changes in the underlying framework. Basically very few of the hacks work, and the standard instructions on the forum cannot be relied upon. Unofficial test binaries working on those versions can be found on Marek’s page, but you’re basically on your own if something doesn’t work.
  3. By all means, do not update to version 5.17.1 or above if you wish to keep the jailbreak; this version kills jailbreak persistence, so you would lose the jailbreak altogether with no way of recovering it.
