I agree with nabsltd. This is an unattributed story likely sourced from online forums like MobileRead and other anecdotal evidence. That's not a "nail in the coffin".
Amazon does not appear to have made any statement about Download and transfer via USB, so what they plan is just speculation. Though I do speculate that D&T is on its way out. I just hope they take a boiling frog approach and leave pre-2024 Kindles alone so that as time passes most Kindles won't have D&T because they never had it in the first place and not because it was removed from a Kindle that once had it.
I also suspect that if Amazon does end D&T, those of us with pre-2024 Kindles will get an email from Amazon telling us this.

I might be missing something but the article itself quotes what they call "the official company statement", which includes the sentence "They can no longer use My Content & Devices to download and transfer books to the new 2024 devices via USB.". How is that not a statement about D&T?
