One thing I noticed about Amazon's updated Connect, Browse, and Transfer Files on E-Reader web page is this statement:

Note: There's no need to select an eject button on the Mac or Windows computer. To eject the Kindle, select the Disconnect button on the Kindle screen or unplug the USB cable from the computer.
That really only applies to the new Kindles that connect using MTP. Pulling the cable without ejecting is actually actually very bad advice for older models.
