I'm sure our guests are nice people for distant relatives we hadn't seen in decades but they have very limited topics of conversation. Heck, we just had our provincial elections here and recounts were in progress which would determine which party formed the government. None of our 3 guests were even vaguely informed about the results. Other than one who was willing to discuss cooking, they were not interested in politics, sports, books, photography, card games, music, movies or any of the other topics I tried. I can only spend so much time talking about cooking with someone who thinks grilling a steak is the peak of the culinary arts and who had the brass-plated cast iron nerve to ask why my spouse didn't do the cooking.
