FWIW, I read the original Dune more than 50 years ago and have re-read it many times. I read the next two not that long thereafter and have not re-read them. I should do so at some point, but I have a lot of books on my to read list.
The first one is very deeply implanted, which makes the adaptations less enjoyable for me. Obsession with books and music from childhood seems a common phenomenon.
