That confirms what I was suspecting, that some utility is intercepting events and modify the normal behavior of the mouse in calibre. It shall be one that starts automatically with your normal user's session, and not with the new user's one, look in your panel control to see which software are automatically loaded when starting the culprit session.

It's certainly not FF or GIMP or someother you start yourself,, but rather some soft waiting in the background for an event (stardict, screenshooter, some messenger soft, some special config for touchpad or keyboard, …).

Start them one by one in your new user's session until calibre begins to misbehave. Then, knowing which one it is, you may disable it in your normal session (maybe you'll need to logoff/login).

Another solution, more simple, is to use the new user as the default one, and during the personalization / fine-tuning of this new user's space, check at each step if calibre is still behaving normally.

Let us know if this solve the case, and which was the culprit if this apply.
