Hi. thanks so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it.
I did find a metadata.db file on my computer--but I doubt that this is the problem. The metadata.db file was created in 2018 and last updated today, and it's not like my library is empty--it has titles, authors, covers, and even my star ratings intact.
I'd added the reviews as a custom column--could that be significant? I've checked in preferences and none of the custom columns that Calibre lists are correct.
