These changes aren't risk free because they touch complicated parts of the code. I would appreciate anyone who uses user categories and runs from source (or can run from source) to try displaying & hiding categories as well as changing their partitioning scheme. Finding problems before the release is a good thing.

Unfortunately running from source is too complicated for me. Preview release, or is that too late?
