The trick which worked for me last time, i.e. to put both the KUAL installer and the hotfix in mrpackages, won't help this time around as
;log mrpi doesn't work.
One thing I hadn't seen before, although I doubt it's helpful: it seems that rebooting with the hotfix bin in the root (instead of trying to do install via the Kindle GUI) brings up an "UPDATE ERROR: 2" message on top of the screen, besides the standard "user friendly" message that a problem occurred.
It does look like the jailbreak is gone. Oh well...
