Many thanks mergen for your support! So it seems ;log r doesn't work either; apparently all ;log commands are gone.

I went through all the methods in the post you linked, and sadly nothing helped, including the steps to restore the ;log commands, which were giving me hope The trick which worked for me last time, i.e. to put both the KUAL installer and the hotfix in mrpackages, won't help this time around as ;log mrpi doesn't work.

One thing I hadn't seen before, although I doubt it's helpful: it seems that rebooting with the hotfix bin in the root (instead of trying to do install via the Kindle GUI) brings up an "UPDATE ERROR: 2" message on top of the screen, besides the standard "user friendly" message that a problem occurred.

It does look like the jailbreak is gone. Oh well...
