Clip-ons are the lowest of low tech.
Even if you have to do that for some silly reason, you can make your own with a bit of copper foil that you punch out with a notebook hole puncher. Add two diodes and a driver circuit that will forward and reverse polarize them and you're done. This has a lower profile than any clip-on.
The 8bitdo is kind of cute.
