I don't think eliminating D&T makes sense from a "how many people really need it?" point of view. It's not as if providing the Download and Transfer option was costing them recurring fees (unlike cellular contracts were).
Getting rid of it only makes sense to me from a "we're looking to eliminate the most common path for DRM removal" scenario.
I don't really have an opinion on whether this is a good or bad thing -- as DRM removal is something that doesn't interest me any more. Except that I'm sure at least SOME people who don't remove DRM are going to be affected by such a change.
