No, Kindle's don't use MTP, they work like a flash drive when you plug it in. Download and transfer is an alternative way to put books on a Kindle from Amazon. You download a file with the correct DRM key for your Kindle from Amazon's website and then copy it on. It is an alternative to 3G/Wifi syncing.
