I went through a process on Kindle Scribe / 5.16.2. Had some fail attempts on the way,
lastly using both hotfixes helped to get surviving JB outside demo.
From KUAL: KOReader works just fine! I also ran BinaryRenamer to lock OTA Updates.
The issue I have is: After a restart I see

EDIT: Removing those two empty files fixed this issue. Big thanks to @mergen3107 for help!
