I just read these as well. Probably one of the least favourite of her Valdemar series for me. Too much interminable navel gazing for me.
Now reading the first of the Heirs of Alexandria series
The Shadow of the Lion. A multi-author book/series with ML, Eric Flint, and David Freer. I'd read this one many years ago, but somehow never read the later ones. So I'm re-reading the first to catch up with the universe (a magical Venice of the 15th century.)
