About a month later Kobo / Tolino has released yet another update.
Firmware version
5.3.195056 seems to concentrate on fixing some of the bugs.
Not much though. Users report they are having less issues with side-loaded fonts now.

This firmware will never populate to a Kobo device naturally, and while some speculate that Kobo is going to unify the two brands that hasn’t happened yet.

I posted this here, because the previous 5.XX firmware updates were discussed here as well.
Tolinos are essentially just rebranded Kobos at this point.
The hardware is 100% identical and they are using Kobos firmware now aswell.
It is likely, that Kobo will eventually merge their 4.XX and 5.XX firmware versions.
That seems to be the whole point. Tolino had its own android based operating system before, which saw little development and was increasingly riddled with bugs over the last couple of years. This showed that Kobo was either not able or willing to develope two seperate operating systems at the same time.
I don't know how the mods want to handle this in the future.
Yes, this situation makes the Tolino sub-forum a bit redundant.
