Background info: I don't have caller ID on my landline and I screen all my calls; I only pick up when the message shows it's someone I want/need to talk to.
So, this morning I was listening to a message from someone who was trying to straighten out a snafu with her hotel reservation. My number reverses two digits of the number of the hotel downtown, so I figured I'd do the right thing and let the caller know it was a wrong number, rather than have her think her message got through.
Picked up the phone:
"You've got a wrong number."
*Hang up*
Uh, "I'm sorry to have bothered you." Would it have been so darned hard? Why are people so rude when being civil would cost them nothing at all? I could have let the message run, after all; answering the phone was doing her a favor.
