If an author is not available in your ebook format, have you tried contacting them with the request that you would like their books in ebook format (let them know that you have a Sony not a Kindle)?
I checked your first author, Joe A., and on his website he lists a couple of forums he uses. I read through the second forum site listed and he comments quite frequently there. Why don't you bring up the question on ebook format for the Sony there too? I saw one posted reply by someone who had a Sony 505.
Authors would probably like to know about additional ways to make sales
Maybe refer him to this site where he can learn about the various readers and their formats in addition to producing ebooks
