It looks like I am going to have to concede that my problem with images is in the Kindle device itself. This makes me wonder if the problem would show up on other devices.
It seems odd to me that with the whole ebook thing now being quite a few years old by now that something like this, along with other compatibility issues I have read about, are still a thing on such basic issues.
If you all don't mind I'd like to post a portion of the book here again, and if you don't mind, try it out on your own reader and let me know what you find.
