Good catch! The short answer is: No, and Yes.
No, there is really no automagically generated cover picture as the "open book folder" showed.
But yes, because both the "Edit metadata" and "Book Details" pop-ups suggest there is one (even 1200x1600). A case of dummy image insert, which certainly mislead me.
A suggestion would be to make the behavior similar: When there is no cover, do not show anything (my preference), or let all pop-ups show a dummy image for a consistent behavior.
