Sorry - I think I've mislead you slightly. By waiting, I mean working on the linux box long enough for the menubar to go and then switching back to the Windows box.
It seems to take at least 5 minutes. It didn't actually shrink in front of my eyes.
I put my Linux scaling back to a more comfortable 125% and that didn't make any difference to the scaling of Sigil's window when the menubar went away. It was exactly as ijn the screenshot I added to my previous post.
