This was not true in my case. Books purchased from Amazon, targeted to my Paperwhite 11th gen, deDRMed and sideloaded by Calibre to BOTH my Paperwhite and Scribe, were deleted from both upon each connecting to WiFi after a period in Airplane mode. I did not download each book twice to target each device. Target device was immaterial in my case.
