This coming Friday would have been our wedding anniversary. I've decided to mark the day by taking Sue's ashes up north to join her mother and step-father in Silver Lake Cemetery on Manitoulin island.
Sue passed away extremely suddenly last November from a combination of Lung Cancer, and Covid.
Sue had lived a few years with them on the island while completing High School, and then worked in Gore Bay for a bit. She always felt a connection to her step-father, and I feel that this is something she would have wanted.
Plans are to leave Toronto on Thursday morning, spend two nights in Providence Bay on the island and head back to Toronto on Saturday.
It's over six hours driving to Providence Bay and another hour from there to the Cemetery. There are not many towns on Manitoulin; Gore Bay would have been closer to the cemetery but unfortunately there were no rooms available there. I could have save some driving time but not travel time had I planned ahead and booked on the Ferry from Tobermory to South Baymouth; that trip is about 2 hours but you need to be at the ferry an hour before hand. The ferry is also fully booked
I'd hoped to see Sue's step-father's sister (Ardeth) while on the island but unfortunately she had a fall recently and is with her daughter in Sudbury. Instead I'll be seeing his brother Lyle instead.
Silver Lake is a lovely little cemetery overlooking Silver Lake (I know, who would have guessed)!
