To that point: I just took up yet another offer for 3 free months of Kindle Unlimited, just 5 days after my last "free trial" ended... So definitely worth it to check the Kindle Unlimited page when logged into your Amazon account. That's where my offer popped up.
I'm wondering if they're testing it out one last time before ending it. If they're getting bad feedback from authors or publishers, or finding it's not really bringing in extra sales, I expect it'll go.
