An alternative would be to do the same with a custom checkbox column.
You can also do this with Action Chains so it doesn't depend on Reading List.
  • Make a chain with two actions:
    • A calibre send-to-device action that sends selected books to the connected device using the method you prefer (single format, etc).
    • A Single Field Edit action that for the selected books sets the tag, Yes/No column, or what-have-you to the desired value.
  • Assign a keyboard shortcut to the chain for ease of access.
To use it, select the book(s) to send then press the keyboard shortcut. Voilą!

This combines well with Reading List because RL can "clean up" the tags on connect, dealing with books deleted directly on the device. No need for Smart Eject unless you want something it does such as the Eject toolbutton. NB: you can create a keyboard shortcut for Eject with Action Chains.
