I have a Kobo (Libra 2) and a Verse Pro.
My Verse Pro has a noticeable gradient (and so does my KL2). It becomes more noticeable in darkness with low backlight settings.
It doesn't bother me.

I'm attaching some photos so you can decide for yourself if it would bother you:

That said, my KL2 has a gradient as well.
