I was on 8 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up (7.4 & 0.95 at peak time before fibre, 2005 to 2023).
Also errors meant dialup was slower. Even on 56K modem the line only did 19K (1998 to 2005, before that we had 128K ISDN for a few years).

So now 1.7 million times faster download and 170 thousand times faster upload than 1987.
