Sorry for dredging up an old thread but I just wanted to mention that I just ran into this one on my 1st gen Oasis. I had about 30 kfx books on it and everything was working fine. I added ~20 more (I usually keep only my reading list on the device but I'd just gotten a few new books and was being indecisive about what to read next). I got a message after unplugging from my mac (and after unmounting from within calibre; the computer saw the device as unmounted) about there being a problem with the kindle that was caused by unplugging the USB unsafely.
It stayed in that state for about 12 hours and I got impatient and tried to restart it, and it's been stuck at the tree screen from then on. From reading upthread, I'm hoping I can just plug it in for a few days and it'll resolve itself, but I'm not expecting much.
For whatever it's worth, I did just load a 10Mb+ kfx file amongst other smaller ones, but I'd also had a 29Mb file on the device for weeks without any issue.
