Another Oregonian (not native though) says hi, and welcome to the forum!

I have an iPad Air, but I don't read books on it, I use a Kobo Sage. I do test the occasional epub for uploading to MobileRead's own library, and I use several apps for that.

You could try the Bookfusion app, as it seems quite nice and does a good job rendering modern epub3. I'm using a free version. It is also available on Android.
