Well, yes, that might help with footnotes (although my fingertip to type size ratio is such that I find it very difficult to touch the right spot to open the footnote). But it's no help at all graphics, which are (for me) a bigger issue. Many of the non-fiction books that I read have important images of one sort or another.
Whilst I have some interest in subject that don't rely on images (e.g., law, politics) my primary non-fiction interests are scientific (e.g., physics, geology).
