PDF's are fixed page format. You'll need to use "Command Line Interface (CLI)" to convert them into KFX, and not Calibre. KFX Output still needs to be installed in Calibre. Instructions are mentioned in the first post. Also read "Comics and Manga" part as it's explaining similar things.

Basically, you first convert PDF into KPF with "Kindle Create" program from Amazon (file-new project-print replica-choose pdf-export). Then you run the command in the directory where your KPF file is.

For example, if you converted gckln0yk.pdf into gckln0yk.kpf. You'd then need to type:
calibre-debug -r "KFX Output" -- "gckln0yk.kpf" "gckln0yk.KFX" -d
If everything goes right, you'll get fixed page kfx file categorised as personal document.

Feel free to ask if you've any problems with this process, I've figured it out after some trial and error, but it has since worked flawlessly for me.
