It's an interesting one, Senlin Ascends. It rose up via the Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO) constest, where it actually failed to make the final, narrowly losing out to the more traditional (and also good fun) The Path of Flames by Phil Tucker (which itself didn't win the overall contest). The original reviews by pornokitsch intrigued a lot of people, including Mark Lawrence who hosts the competition, and who ended up championing the book and helping it get a trad publication.

Anyway, I liked it, and am willing to add my personal recommendation, even though I fell off the series when it went tradpub and haven't read the third and fourth books yet. I think Bancroft also writes poetry, and it shows in the careful use of language.
