Did you try dragging the detached window close to the edge of the main window where you want it, viz:
Tried that and didn't get any results, the windows had no interaction with the main window. But starting X11 session enabled me to get the windows docked again. I've been using Wayland since switching to Debian in January, and this is the first time I've had any issues with it, which is why it took a while for me to figure out.
