kindles with stock software do NOT support EPUB.

You can test your EPUB with epubcheck to check it for errors.
Though Calibre may be better for mobi (four prehistoric kindles) and azw3. The Calibre editor has Calibre Check and can have epub check, for epubs. You can also check/edit TOC and font support/embedding/subsetsa.
