Yeah, that's why I had to try really hard to get into it. If I hadn't had a review copy, and "owed" the review, I might even have given up. Or if I hadn't liked the Murderbot books so much, so was willing to persist a bit more than if I hadn't had experience with Wells. But once I figured it out, mostly about the structure/two timelines, and how to know which one I was in, I really really liked it. And I loved the finely-tuned snark, and the found family.
