I experienced the same, it works as usual.
However, the Windows for NOOK application had trouble syncing my library and getting the new eBooks, so it is best to assume it they will prevent the app from connecting and downloading one's library very soon.
If I had a gift card, I would use it immediately and stop purchasing eBooks from BN. Full stop.
Encourage gift cards from Google Play or Kobo, if a gift giver insists on a gift card in lieu of something else.
It's not a lot, but I have just over 600 purchased eBooks and I don't want to jump through hoops anymore to read them on my preferred devices. I try to buy them without DRM from publishers who offer that or from Google Play.
