Did it this time with the automated download and the latest version for the Clara 2E. Unfortunately it's still not working.
I also put the application on the excluded list of windows defender. What else could be the problem?

This is strange and I don't know what the reason is, sorry. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with KoboPatchFan per se, but with the patch file itself. Maybe some permission problem.
To verify, you could check if the same error occurs when you manually run kobopatch.bat in the kobopatchfan folder. If yes, then you should ask for help in the official thread:
