Richard Middleton (1882-1911) was a British poet and author, who suffered from severe depression (then called melancholia) and took his own life in 1911.
Shortly after his death, 3 volumes of poems, a volume of essays, and a volume of short stories appeared, (The Ghost Ship and other stories; with a preface by Arthur Machen; the title story has been reprinted many times). Some years later a further short story collection and a novel appeared.
