Is it actually a mono LCD with matt glass surface and orange LEDs for backlight? Matt displays are 40+ years old. It's simply cheaper to have a shiny surface.
The interview suggests it's not bistable.

So that means power consumption while you read. Real epaper of the eink type uses no power till you turn the page. CPU and display controller sleeps while you read.
If it was really a fast epaper using new technology they'd sell panels, not an ereader?
Also it's Android, which suggests they are lacking in SW development skills.

It's very sketchy on what the display technology is. Maybe a transreflective mono LCD with orange LEDs? It's not going to be the basis of a desktop eink monitor.

A mono LCD lets more than x4 the light through of a colour model
You can get very good tablets (TCL Nxtpaper). TCL is a very large company that makes displays, Alcatel phones, TVs, Nokia phones.
You can also get some models of LG (23″) and Samsung 4K desktop monitors that are flicker free, no glare or reflection and can be almost like paper to use. I recently also got a tablet like matt QHD 16″ portable display for my Pi or laptop that while it's not as good as TCL Nxtpaper, it's better than Apple screen in the showroom last week. Sits in front of the laptop HD screen for a better experience.
