The DeDRM doesn't work on the actual Kindles. You register that kindle to the Amazon account. Then any files downloaded by browser (rather than Whispernet) for later USB transfer to the Kindle can be read.

So yes, if that Kindle isn't "blacklisted" (blocked by Amazon because reported lost or stolen) it can be registered to your account. Then you put that device's Serial ID in the Calibre plug in and downloaded files (direct to PC/Mac etc, not by Kindle) are read.
