I pause (Stop, not kill) the gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor BEFORE connecting, because while you can stop the filemanager in Cinnamon grabbing it, that setting is ignored on Linux Mint with caja.

Also some Android gadgets let Calibre connect after you "un mount" on desktop and some don't re-connect withou cable removed and re-inserted.

So I "stop" the process in System Monitor GUI that's a right click in fron of window list. Scroll down and rightclick on the process.
"Continue" it after eject and cable disconnect.
Killing it doesn't work as it auto respawns like monsters in a game.
