Even if there was sufficient supply of Kindles, Amazon can not move into European markets with the current equipment. The wireless component of the service runs on Sprint EVDO/CDMA network. If I am not mistaken, there is no CDMA service in Europe, all of their stuff is GSM.
A new device is needed for the Old World.
What is more intriguing is that Amazon has not yet moved into the Canadian market, which has CDMA/EVDO service (Bell).
