The 'Save View Columns' action is not realy handfull for that because you need to leave the config dialog and it can be very inconvenient if you have a lot of edit to make.
Sorry but I'm not really seeing what value there is in giving the user a bunch of numbers to look at/edit?

The workflow is:
1. You define your view in the dialog.
2. You apply it.
3. You resize the columns to exactly how you want them making as many fine tweaks as you need.
4. You choose Save View Columns to lock that in as the view with column widths defined.

Personally I think that makes way more sense than having the user sitting there on the dialog wondering if a column should be 100 or 300 and repeating that thought over and over - then having to constantly exit the dialog, see how it looks, back to the dialog, make a change by x pixels, back out again to see how it looks - over and over for every column...
